Flora & Fauna in Peru



The nature and environment of Peru is incredible. In terms of flora, Peru has more than 25, 000 plant species, which is 10% of the world's total and 30% of these plants are native to Peru. 4, 400 of these plants have helpful properties. In terms of Fauna, Peru has the largest number of fish species in the world, 2, 000, the second largest number of bird species in the world, 1, 736, the third largest number of amphibians in the world, 332, third in mammals, 460, and fifth in reptiles, 365. 5, 528 plants and 760 animals are endemic to Peru. In Peru, there are 222 endangered species of animals, 31 animals facing extinction, 89 vulnerable animals, 22 rare animals, and 80 indefinite animals.

One of the reasons that Peru's ecosystem is so interesting is that new species are constantly being discovered. The ecosystem of Peru also offers diverse flora and fauna for the casual tourist to the nature enthusiast. Peru also has a variety of environments, from the Pacific Coastal Desert, with the native White-winged Guan and Marvellous Spatuletail Hummingbird to the high jungle of Tarapoto. In Peru, there are many natural wonders, such as the sonar behavior of pink dolphins, the jaguar, and Silky Anteaters. There are the Victoria Regia Water Lilies that could hold the weight of a baby. There are so many experiences in Peru that can not be found anywhere else, like humpback whales in the Amazon Lake, swimming with sea turtles on the coast of Piura, and seeing a Cock in the Rock on the way to the Cloud Forest.
