Machu Picchu

Machu Picchu is a 9,000 foot tall mountain peak and was a formal estate of the Incan empire. It was rediscovered by Hiram Bingham III in 1911 and not long after became a site for tourists. It features more than 150 temples, houses, baths, storage rooms and palaces. Machu Picchu was made out of stone and was created without the help of wheels or tools made of iron, one of the biggest architectural mysteries in the world. In 1983, it was listed as an UNESCO World Heritage Site and it is one of the only well preserved remnants of the Incan Civilization.
